Sibikwa Arts Centre, a Centre of Excellence, recognized by the National Department of Arts and Culture, MAPPP- SETA, and the Gauteng Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, invites you and your learners to join us in an exciting Arts and Culture programme which creates learning opportunities for both learners and educators, making the arts and culture classroom a fun learning space for all. Sibikwa Arts Centre has a 21 year history of good practice in Arts Education.

A performing arts experience on your doorstep
School Excursion to Sibikwa Arts Centre in Benoni. Sibikwa can provide your intermediate and senior learners with an experience that will make the Arts and Culture Curriculum come alive. Lecture/ demonstrations provide learners with an interactive exploration of dance, music, and drama. While the site visit will help the Grade 8 learners with all they need to know about careers in the arts. Worksheets will assist learners in: writing reviews and reflecting on what they have seen and heard. The four hour programme can accommodate 50-100 learners. Admission fee R40.

Participatory Workshop - Grades 6-12.
“Inspiration Through Integration- If You Can Move, You Can Dance.” A participatory workshop for learners, showcasing various South African dances, Gumboot , Pantsula, Afro-Fusion, Kwela accompanied by drumming and singing. This workshop is relevant to the schools Arts and Culture curriculum. Audience participation brings about a fun element to this 50 minutes long demonstration. Workshop can accommodate 100-250 learners. Admission fee R25. The demonstration is conducted throughout the year upon request at your school. Educators support material is available.
Sibikwa Arts Dance Teachers Workshop - Grades 4-9
Focusing on the Arts and Culture Curriculum in Schools. The members of the Sibikwa Arts Dance Company will assist educators in implementing the dance component of the Arts and Culture curriculum. A maximum of 30 educators can participate in this 2 hour workshop. Admission fee R50. The workshop is conducted throughout the year, upon request for a minimum of 15 participants. Educators support material is available.
Sibikwa’s Dance Explosion!
Aspiring dancers and choreographers – celebrate Human Right’s Day (21 March). This event celebrates all forms of dance allowing upcoming choreographers to showcase their works. It also serves as a platform for various dancers to explore their talent. This event will be held at the Sibikwa Arts Centre. Admission fee R25. Watch these young phenomenal performers!

18 and 19 April 2010 - Dance Storm
The Sibikwa Arts Dance Company, comprising of vibrant and energetic performers, in collaboration with The Sibikwa Arts African Indigenous Orchestra, showcase their unique talent through various performances. These performances include Butoh (Japanese art form) solos choreographed by the Company members, mentored by Boaz Barken and new work choreographed by Cherice Mangiagalli. Admission fee R40.

Sibikwa Arts African Indigenous Orchestra School Workshop - Grades 4-9
Lecture/Demonstrations introducing young people to indigenous South African instruments Makhoyane, Uhadi, Stolo tolo, (Jewish Harp), Bapedi Naka (pipes), Kudu Horns, African Drums & Percussions, Marimba and Voice. Under the musical direction of Neo Leleka and Easy Mathipa, the group of 12 enthusiastic and talented young musicians will inspire your learners to know more about our Heritage. The Orchestra made their debut at the Sasol Schools Festival, held at The State Theatre in September 2009 and was acclaimed by learners and educators who were present at the Festival. These demonstrations will be 50min-1hr long, no of learners 100- 250. Admission fee R25. The lecture/demonstration is conducted throughout the year, upon request at your school. Educators support material is available.
